If Death on the Nile proves to be a success on the same level as Knives Out, Kenneth Branagh will likely be propositioned to continue on bringing Christie’s stories to the screen. It’s not a surprise since true-crime series and movies have been a popular fad, and Kenneth Branagh’s adaptations of the Queen of Mystery’s novels bring back the 1920s and ‘30s era of sleuthing post- Sherlock Holmes. The murder mystery genre of movies has been increasingly successful in recent years, as demonstrated by Rian Johnson’s Knives Out and Adam Sandler’s Murder Mystery, both of which are getting sequels through Netflix.
